African Routes
African Roots and Living Culture of Havana
Description
Departure by air-conditioned coach to explore one of Havana’s most authentic cultural experiences: the strong African heritage reflected in the city’s history, religion, art, and daily life.
The tour begins with a visit to the Casa de África Museum, located on Mercaderes Street in Old Havana. The museum houses more than two thousand pieces illustrating Africa’s influence in Cuba, including an educational performance showcasing Afro-Cuban traditions, Santería collections gathered by Fernando Ortiz, and exhibitions related to slavery and African ceremonial masks.
The journey continues to the Quisicuaba Sociocultural Project, a community initiative that highlights the history, traditions, and social development of Centro Habana.
Next, visit the famous Callejón de Hamel, a vibrant cultural alley created by artist Salvador González Escalona, featuring Afro-Cuban murals, recycled artworks, symbolic nganga elements, and lively cultural activities.
Lunch included at El Polinesio restaurant.
Return to the hotel at the end of the excursion.
