PRISON ISLAND & NAKUPENDA
Description
The excursion to Prison Island and Nakupenda is an unforgettable experience that combines history, nature and relaxation in one of the most beautiful settings in Zanzibar. You depart by boat to this small island, located about 30 minutes from Stone Town. The island has a rich history; it was initially used as a prison for rebellious slaves and later as a quarantine for people with infectious diseases. Today, you can visit the former prison and learn about its history. One of the main attractions is the giant tortoise sanctuary, where you can see and feed these fascinating creatures that arrived from the Seychelles in the late 19th century. The island offers stunning views of the ocean and the opportunity to relax on its small beaches. After visiting Prison Island, the tour continues to Nakupenda, a spectacularly beautiful sandbank surrounded by crystal clear waters. Here, visitors enjoy a paradisiacal experience: swimming in the Indian Ocean, snorkelling to observe the vibrant marine life and relaxing in the sun. The tour includes a delicious lunch of fresh seafood on the beach, accompanied by tropical fruits, while you are surrounded by postcard-perfect scenery.
