STONE TOWN TOUR & SPICE GARDEN

STONE TOWN TOUR & SPICE GARDEN

Description

The Stone Town and Spice Tour combines Zanzibar's rich history and culture with its heritage as the ‘Spice Island’, providing a complete experience that awakens the senses. We start in Stone Town, the ancient historical centre of Zanzibar, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will walk through its narrow, labyrinthine alleyways, filled with coral stone buildings, intricately carved doorways and vibrant markets. We will visit landmarks such as the House of Wonders, the Old Fort, the Sultan's Palace and the Slave Market, where visitors can learn about Zanzibar's fascinating history, including Arab, Indian and European influences, as well as the slave and spice trade. This part of the tour offers an immersion into the life, culture and architecture of the island. After exploring Stone Town, we head to one of Zanzibar's famous spice plantations, where the Spice Tour begins. Here, visitors will discover why Zanzibar is known as ‘Spice Island’. A local guide will take us through the plantation, showing us different trees and shrubs and explaining the growing and harvesting processes. You will have the opportunity to see, smell and taste fresh spices such as cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, ginger and many others. They will also learn about their culinary, medicinal and cosmetic uses. The Spice Tour also includes the tasting of tropical fruits and, in some cases, visitors will be able to participate in the making of spice products. This experience offers a sensory connection to the island's agricultural history and an insight into the importance of spices in Zanzibar's economy and culture.
